He contemplated the Harmonic Chutes in silence for an entire year.
"You didn't break the silence, Lois. You just covered it with noise."
An emissary from silence in search of lost harmony
Born on the icy cliffs of the Myën archipelago, Jasparu has always lived on the margins, even among his own kind. While most of Halyndor's PenPen grow up in the discipline of choirs and the slow rhythm of traditions, Jasparu spent his time listening to the world - not just the sounds, but also the silences, the resonances, the absences. His behavior was disconcerting. He asked too many questions. He lingered on frequencies that others considered insignificant. He noted vibrations, murmurs, micro-chords. When he was sent to Fraktar as an emissary, it was not a mark of honor, but a gentle way of dismissing him. He took no offense. He set off, his only companion a floating, star-shaped sphere - the Eye of Halyn, an ancient, forgotten Kontroller whose sounds seemed to dialogue with the world.
Across the continents, Jasparu discovered a restless, brutal, noisy world. Where his peers carved ice, the mages of Fraktar carved chaos. Duels, arenas, violence set to music... it was all beyond him. He didn't oppose it head-on. He watched. He learned.
But one day, the silence was broken. He found Lois, another PenPen, once his friend. Together, they shared the same gift: to hear what others cannot. But Lois had changed. She spoke loudly. She set the pace. She no longer listened. Seduced by the promise of power, she had joined Herd, trading the rigor of their people for a perverted freedom.
Jasparu has followed her ever since. From afar. He's not trying to bring her back - not yet. He's still trying to understand what she heard that he didn't perceive. Because maybe the problem is him. Maybe he's missed some crucial dissonance. Or maybe he's the only one still hearing what everyone else has forgotten. He moves on, alone. Seeking neither battle nor victory. Only the right agreement.
